Let’s get to the bare essentials of what’s going on beneath all the titles & sub sub sub genres. Let’s eliminate what would possibly give you street cred or what may be expected of you with your music selection & we can get back to what actually makes music good. To me, even among the cess pool of genres & an endless array sub-genres for you & all your friends with glow sticks, there’s only 2 types of music; Good & Bad! That simple. The music that has an underlying sense of something that goes much deeper than recycled hooks or a perfected song formula is what I always easily gravitate to. I gathered the strangest collection of songs from all ends of the spectrum & all parts of the world for you all to taste. Yum! - Maika Maile

Conditions - Make Them Remember
The Format - Snails
When I listen to these songs I immediately find the brighter side of a situation. ”Make Them Remember” reminds me to stick up for myself and ”Snails” makes me pay attention to the smaller things in life and how big their impact can be. - Tay Jardine
The Starting Line - Island
The Starting Line has always been a special band for me. They’re a band that successfully matured along with their fans. It doesn’t matter how upset I am. All I need to do is listen to ”Island” and it feels like the first time I heard it, every time. There’s something special about records that bring that nostalgic feeling out of you, even when you feel like everything is going wrong. That’s why TSL will always be one of my favorite bands. It says something when you see them live and other bands that are killing it right now are side stage singing every word. You just really can’t put it into words. - Jordan Eckes
Parachute - You and Me
Another band that I can listen to no matter how I’m feeling is Parachute. They’re an amazing band. They write amazing music and they’re going to be huge. ”You and Me” is really one of those songs that can cheer you up. It’s a great sing along song. What I love about this band is that they also have those sad songs you want to listen to when you’re upset. We all have that “go to band” when you’re in that situation. If you haven’t listened to Parachute yet I highly recommend checking them out. - Jordan Eckes
fun. - WeAre Young
I’m a huge Format/fun. fan, I remember this single dropped when we were in Osaka, on our Japanese run with All Time Low… I found wifi as fast as I could and bought the single off iTunes. There are very few bands I get that excited about anymore. They write smart pop songs, and they consistently pen some of my favorite lyrics, no matter what mood they’re creating they find a way of sucking me in. With that being said fun. is a go to for me, whether I’m high on life, or down on myself. - Mike Ferri
The Weeknd - The Zone *Song is currently not on Spotify
I recently got into The Weeknd, and this track is one of my favorites. The Weeknd is one of the most consistent artists out right now. He creates an entire world with his music and you get theopportunity to visit it when you throw on one of his records. This one in particular is a favorite of mine, due to the Drake cameo. I’m a big fan of hip hop, and in my opinion Drake is one of theonly mainstream artists that does it right. His verse on this song switches gears a little bit, without compromising the tone of the track as a whole. - Mike Ferri
Mae- The Fisherman Song
Bayside- Dear Your Holiness
Both of these songs bring a nostalgic but different feeling to me. Whenever I listen to them I feel how I felt when I first heard them. It’s amazing how powerful music really is. Sometimes thefeeling we get has nothing to do with the actual lyrics, just the tone of a song can effect someones life. - Rob Chianelli
Secret Lives of the Freemasons - Life Begins at 40oz.
The Story So Far - Quicksand
Nobody wants to be a downer when they’re about to go out. So listen to these bands/songs to put a little skip in your step, and have a good time. Make mistakes responsibly. ;) - Cameron Hurley

Foo Fighters - My Hero
The feeling this song gives me is powerful. It makes me feel like I can do anything. I don’t express it much but Dave Grohl is one of my favorite people and this song is one of his best.
Marianas Trench - Beside You *Song is currently not on Spotify
I just recently found out about this Vancouver band. This song really hits home. It’s heavily melody driven and super powerful. This is the first song I heard from this band and I fell in love. Their 3 Masterpiece songs are epic!
We The Kings - Say You Like Me
When we were in Australia for Soundwave, Travis from We The Kings showed me this rough demo he had of this song and I instantly told him it was amazing! I’m a sucker for powerful music, music that moves you, and this song sits perfectly in that category.
You Me At Six - Stay With Me
You Me At Six are some of the coolest people I’ve ever met. Based in the UK, their following over there is ridiculous. They’re freaking U2 over there. When I heard this song it blew me away. You’ll start to notice a trend from this point on that I’m a sucker for powerful music, like stated before. The rest of the songs on this list are my go to songs to get me through what I call “my moments”.
Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me
Probably my number 1 go to song. Jimmy Eat World never seizes to amaze me. There song writing and Jim’s voice win me over every time. I’ve noticed they always like to add a female vocal in most of their ballads and I love it!
The Dangerous Summer - Northern Lights
A.J. and the guys outdid themselves on this one. I could probably say that this song is one of Derek’s favorite songs as well. Don’t let it fool you, these guys like to party! haha.
Select Start - Hold Your Ground
This is one of those bands that should be huge but a lot of people have never heard of them. They’re a Tampa, Florida based band that has been around for quite some time now. They’ve recently changed their sound to this style of music and in my opinion, it was for the better. They’re musicianship is among the best I’ve heard in any band. They’re EP The New Atlantic speaks for itself. Check it out.
Saves The Day - Freakish
The vibe of this song is undeniably perfect. Saves The Day has been one of my favorite bands for a long time. I missed a chance of seeing them in Tallahassee a long time ago with Dashboard Confessional and Further Seems Forever. Boy was that something I’ll always regret.
The Used - Blue and Yellow
This song changed my life. I went through a break up a long time ago and this song saved me. I listened to it over and over yet it still never got old. I met Bert in Nashville at a show we did with The Used and it blew me away. I was speechless. I didn’t want to say anything stupid so I just chose to shake his hand and smile. I can’t believe I washed my hand.
Coldplay - The Scientist
This song is nothing short of epic. It’s the one song that made me fall in love with Coldplay. It’s hard to believe how music can be so powerful sometimes.
Copeland – California
I may have said this before but this is my favorite song. It’s the song I listen to when I’m in Florida and my girlfriend’s in California. It feels almost as if this song was written for me to get through those “moments”.
Damien Rice - 9 Crimes *Song is currently not on Spotify
I stumbled across this song when I was running on the beach in Jacksonville in front of one of the venues there. The song came on my iPod when it was on shuffle and it made me think so damn much. I guess you could call this my thinking song. Suicide should never be a thought in someones mind ever but unfortunately it does cross some people’s minds given a certain situation. I’m glad Damien Rice wrote a song about it. At least, that’s how I perceived the song. I’ll always remember that moment. - Jake Bundrick
