Handguns and Forever Came Calling’s new split EP is officially out via our good friends at Pure Noise Records. Handguns and Forever Came Calling were kind enough to do a Track-By-Track for PropertyOfZack to discuss the meaning behind each of the songs on the split. Check them out below!

Smoke And Mirrors
This song is about how miserable and depressed I felt from working 9-5 jobs and how my friends would work simply to have money to spend on booze and drugs. It all came to a head one night when I selfishly tried to end my own life. I woke up the next day and realized that I needed to start a band and chase my dreams. The next day I started Handguns. Sounds corny I know but, it’s true. - Handguns

Swallowing Knives
Sometimes forgiveness feels like swallowing knives. What more can I can I feel this song is pretty dead on. Don’t waste your time on people who use you. - Handguns

Where Are You?
I was raised in a religious home my whole life. This song is about trying to figure out what happens after death. And figuring out what it is that you really believe in. - Handguns

Knott Sky or Luckie
This song’s name is a reference to the two parks in our hometown. Luckie Park is the place you go to when your younger, think little League, carnivals, and Summer time. Knott Sky is the park you go to when your older and, you wanna be alone or, drink with your friends. This song is about the dichotomy of figuring out where you fit in, or if you fit in at all. It’s an open question to yourself, naivety or apathy. Personally these two parks influenced my decision to follow my dreams “just this once.” - Forever Came Calling

Contrition
I was raised/am catholic, lyrically this is about me questioning if I made the right decision to be who I am. - Forever Came Calling

Front Porch, Sunrise
This band and ability to play music has given me the world, and for that I am forever indebted. At the same time it has cost me sleep, money, and stability. The original
Name for this song was going to be “penance” but, I feel the title now is a little more personal. It’s about that girl who does not understand and can’t comprehend how much a dream can mean to you. She lives in CA and closed our last  conversation with “you know how stable of a life I lead, you don’t have stability, if you want me you know how to find me.”

Our side of the split runs as one song, it’s a nod to bands like Boys Night Out, we wish we could be them. Lyrically overall it’s about the decision to take the band full time and the steps of that decision. - Forever Came Calling
