Underøath’s first single from their new album, Ø Disambiguation, may have left you with a familiar taste in your mouth, but “In Division” fires on all cylinders and in a way no Underøath song ever has. “In Division” is not your typical Underøath song as Spencer screams, “I’m planning a revolution // Inside my head // I’m planning a revolution // When I prevail // I call for annihilation.” And what an annihilation they deliver: the track provides one of the darkest vibes the band has put out in years.
All members of Underøath shine throughout the track. The guitar tone is dark and driving and compliments the song’s diverse vocal patterns. Underøath’s first single, “Illuminator,” gave fans and critics a small gap to get used to new drummer Daniel Davidson, but he shines on “In Division,” letting loose and ripping on the drums.
While “In Divison” is a more mature progression for Underøath, it has a less of a poppy chorus then previous material from the band and still holds its value. “In Division” absolutely sets the bar high for the rest of the record
