PropertyOfZack had the chance with Pierce The Veil not too long ago at their show in Philadelphia, PA for a great interview. Vic, Jaime, Tony, and I discussed the band’s headlining tour with Miss May I, writing for their new album, a possible release schedule, and more. Read up and enjoy!

For the record, could you state your names and roles in Pierce The Veil?
Vic: I’m Vic, and I sing and play guitar.
Jaime: I’m Jaime, and I play bass.
Tony: I’m Tony, and I play guitar.
Vic: Together we are Pierce The Veil.

This is the final leg of your tour with Miss May I. How as the tour been?
Vic: Awful, nobody showed up [Laughs].
Jaime: Kids are just not getting it. No one’s getting it [Laughs].
Vic: There are plenty of tickets left.
Tony: We’re slashing prices there are so many tickets left [Laughs].
Vic: No, it’s been the best tour ever. It’s been amazing. Best vibes and tons of great shows. All the bands are awesome. We’ve added a few new songs in our set list that we’ve never played before, so that’s been fun for us. It’s just been nice to headline again and to play more songs because that’s what kids complain about.

This tour is sort of off of an album cycle for you, so is this one more of a tour for the fans?
Vic: Absolutely.
Tony: It’s been great. We’ve been doing meet and greets and we hang out after the shows with fans and stuff. It’s been awesome seeing the growth of this band from the last time we played venues like this with other bands. It’s gnarly to see how many kids are coming out.

Do you see yourself doing more headliners due to the response of this tour?
Vic: I hope so. We’ve supported tons of awesome tours, but we’d love to do more headlining. We have enough kids asking us to do it. It’d be awesome to do more.

Selfish Machines was released in June of 2010. Are you happy with the total reception to the album?
Vic: Everything about this band is all about progressing. Everything is going in a positive direction for the band, which is what we always want do. Hopefully we’ll push ourselves more in the future.

The record was your last on Equal Vision, and the big news of late is of course that the band signed to Fearless Records. Is there a reason you made the jump?
Vic: It was time to try something new. We were with them for eight years and we love them to death. We saw that the band was growing and we wanted to go with a label that has a bigger staff and can do more things. They’ve been doing a great job so far. They did an awesome job of promoting our Punk Goes Pop cover. The response to that has been awesome. We wanted to wait to play it live, but we are and it’s going over really well.

How long have you been working on the new album for?
Vic: We have been for a while. Over the summer and on this tour. We take a long time to write albums just because our songs have so many things going on here and there. We like to make every little part count. We like it all to mean something. It has to come to us.

How far along is the band in the process?
Vic: We’re right in the middle of it. There’s so much stuff going on. We’re trying to pick a producer for the album. We’re figuring out where we’re going to record as well while we’re still writing it. We’ve written tons of material, but we’re not done yet. I’ve been trying to send songs to the label, but we have so many it takes me to narrow them down. We’ll have a lot to choose from.

When would you like to hit the studio?
Early next year at the beginning of the year. After this tour we’re going to try to finish up the writing.

So you’re aiming for a summer release?
Vic: Yeah, we’re definitely hoping for a summer release. That would be awesome. That’s the plan.

There have been rumors that you have confirmed a spot on Warped Tour this year.
Tony: We will confirm that there are rumors of us being on Warped Tour.

If the band finishes up touring in the first few months of 2012, will we see you on the road in the spring?
Vic: It depends.
Tony: We’re looking into our options.
Vic: We can’t rally confirm anything because of recording, because we’re not sure of how long it’s going to take. We’re being careful to not overbook ourselves because we don’t want to cancel anything.

The genre that you guys are categorized in is quickly being oversaturated. Is it that important now to further separate yourself from the bunch with this album and with Fearless?
Vic: We want to take the things that make us stand out amongst those other bands and push them even further so we can really try to do something that we’ve never done or to do something that people have never heard. We’re trying to keep things organic and real sounding compared to the bands that are trying to make everything so perfect and fake sounding. That’s one thing that we push really hard.
POZ: Has the writing process shifted this time?
Vic: Over the summer, the owner of our new label let us use his cabin outside of San Diego in the mountains, and that was pretty cool. We had never done something like that.

A long time ago there was some chatter about an acoustic project with Caleb from Attack Attack! Has anything progressed with that?
We chatted about that for a while. It could still definitely happen because we talk and are good friends, but we’re always so busy. Maybe if we’re on another tour together it can happen.
