The next Playlist in our ongoing series features Hit The Lights, The Front Bottoms, and A Great Big Pile Of Leaves. All three bands have been busy touring over the last few months, so we thought it’d be great to match them together. Check out the Playlists and listen to the songs while reading everyone’s thoughts!

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - Let it Sway
Pete introduced me to this band around the time we started playing together. It’s hard to choose a specific song from these dudes, because I love the records from front to back, but this one has a really awesome vibe to it, and the video is rad. - Tyler Soucy
The Little Ones - Oh, MJ!
Another band Pete introduced me to earlier in the year (according to him it was several years ago), but they have quickly become a favorite of mine. They are incredible songwriters and have kept me awake through plenty of late night drives on tour. Basically they’re the sole reason we’re not dead, no big deal. - Tyler Soucy
Grandaddy - El Caminos in the West
I discovered this band when I went on my first tour, and recently got back into the record. The vocal melody and piano/keys part in this song are awesome. - Tyler Soucy
Marshall Tucker Band - Can’t You See
When I listen to this song I feel cool, which is a rare experience for me. It brings out the frontier man in me. - Peter Weiland
Chingy - Holidae In
Some hip hop I enjoy but usually there’s a comical element to that enjoyment for me, most likely due to some absence of game in my personality. I genuinely enjoy listening to Chingy though. I can’t help but nod my head and start dancing when I hear this. I’m sure I look ridiculous but I feel fantastic. - Peter Weiland
The Descendents - When I Get Old
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. When I was younger I would go skateboarding and play “Everything Sucks” on repeat for hours and hours on my boom box. It is a burst of energy for me. - Peter Weiland
The Band - King Harvest (Has Surely Come)
This is an old mix tape standard for me. The perfectly janky time feel gets me way too into this song, to the point of embarrassment. In fact, I intentionally leave this off my iPod for fear of involuntary subway dancing. - Tucker Yaro
Stevie Wonder - Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours
The sound is so good! This is another example of that off the grid kind of groove that just kills me every time. The bass playing is so awesome! -Tucker Yaro
Michael Jackson - Rock with You
This song always delivers. I’ve heard it a billion times, like everybody else probably, but it just never loses it’s shine. Always a great addition to any playlist or school dance. - Tucker Yaro
Ahmad Jamal - Poinciana
This song is such a gem, clearly from outer space. Those voicings are indescribable. I love the sounds in the background, too, that always makes me smile. The rhythms, the lines, the chords, and space. So great. - Tucker Yaro

Gyptian - Beautiful Lady
The ultimate dude. Pretty sure a lot of people still don’t even know who gyptian is, but he’s got style. And his music video for this song is too good.
Frightened Rabbit - Midnight Organ Fight
Is the name of the album. I know we should be picking one song, but it’s not that easy. We end up driving for three hours just listening to Frightened Rabbit.
Emperor X - Erica Western Gegur Counter
Chad is a phenomenal song writer/ performer. We have been lucky enough to tour with him for two weeks this past september. More people need to discover his music, you will probably love it.
Christmas Shoes
Sometimes we just need to cry. So we play this song.
Heavens - Another Night
This came out a good while ago, loved it. Brian was updating our mp3 player for the road and decided to put heavens into our rotation. Totally forgot how good this song was.
Fucked Up! - David Comes To Life
Again, we aren’t going to pick a song. Just going to say the album, David Comes To Life. Really interesting. I’m not going to explain it….
Dr. P - Watch Out
Rock and roll track. This is our dub step jams. When we feel like dancing.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Soul to Squeeze
I think I just always loved this song since i could remember.
Foxy Shazam
I can’t pick one song. The self-titled album is really good. We kinda get lost while listening to this. Super cleaver.
Uncle Murder - Warning
How could you not like to listen to this song. It’s uncle murder, son. - Brian Sella

Heya. Here are some songs I love and how I came across them. If you like them, you should get your filthy mitts on these records and hopefully you’ll love them too. The list is set up on how I chronologically found the bands. Enjoy.
Jawbreaker - Do You Still Hate Me
When my sister found out I was getting into Green Day when they first broke out in ‘93, she gave me this cassette and said, “it’s like Green Day, but better.” I eventually listened to it to the point that the tape warped and broke. This band was my introduction to the East Bay punk scene and opened me up to some great music.
Screeching Weasel - Peter Brady
One: You act your age. Two: You don’t try to be something you’re not. Three: You find out in advance what restaurant your mom and dad are going to and go some place else.
The Rentals - Waiting
For a lot of kids growing up listening to rock music in the 90’s, Weezer was a staple. Matt Sharp, their bass player on the first two records released this while still in the band. The first Rentals record felt like it could have been an extension of the Blue Album and Pinkerton but it also stands alone in it’s amazing hooks and moog heavy melodies. The video for this song is fuckin rad, as well.
Propagandhi - Anti Manifesto
This band. Oh my Jebus. Foul mouthed, socially aware, politically charged, Canuck punks that write intelligent, pissed yet melodic songs. Their concepts and ideals went over my 13 year old head but I knew I’d grow into it. When I let a friend borrow the “How to Clean Everything” record in the 7th grade, his mom found it in his room, read the lyrics to Hallie Does Hebron and grounded him instantly. If that doesn’t make you love a band, I don’t know what will.
Black Flag - Jealous Again
I got into this band from a Guitar World magazine. I had heard the name and seen the logo for a while but the intensity of the photos and their connection to other bands I was already into sold me instantly. “The First Four Years,” a compilation of the their early 7 inches, didn’t leave my discman for months. Greg Ginn’s aggressive guitar playing has influenced me for years and still blows my damn mind with every listen.
Descendents - Bikeage
My buddy Dave, who plays bass in HTL, and I used to cover this song in our middle school punk band. If someone would have told us that we’d have the chance to record some music years later at drummer, Bill Stevenson’s Blasting Room Studio, I woulda shit. Right then and there. Qua qua, qua qua.
Hey Mercedes - Bells
It seemed like a lot of the bands I was getting into when I was younger had already disbanded or broke up shortly after I started listening. A perfect example is Braid. “Movie Music: Volume 1” made me an instant fan but they broke up before I had a chance to see them. The up side was three of their members were forming a new band and putting out an EP on Polyvinyl. Although it’s only four songs, it’s my favorite EP and their singer Bob Nanna is still one of my favorite songwriters.
Saves The Day - Blindfolded
First found out about this band from my friend Evan who saw them play in a gym in Muncie, IN. He was raving about their new record, “Through Being Cool” and thought I’d be into “Rock Tonic Juice Magic” because of how evil the lyrics were. Up to that point, I hadn’t connected so hard with the lyrics of a band.
The Stryder - 11:11
In 2000, Equal Vision Records, like a lot of other labels used to release compilations on these things called “cassettes.” I got one for free from a local record store that featured Saves The Day, Bane, Boy Sets Fire and this band, The Stryder, from Long Island. Seeing this band play that were only a few years older than me was a huge influence and made me realize the idea of being in a signed and touring band wasn’t as unattainable as I thought.
Wheat - I Met a Girl
At the end of 2006, our band was lucky enough to go to the UK with New Found Glory and the Early November. That’s where we made the acquaintance of one of my favorite limeys, Olly Mac, who was working with TEN at the time. We were nerding out to some music on the bus when he introduced me to this band. This record instantly became an instant favorite and is amazing from start to finish.
RobinElla - Down the Mountain
Found this jem on an Americana compilation that my brother in law gave me a few years ago. The compilation also turned me on to some other great folk and traditional county artists like Josh Ritter and Old Crow Medicine Show. The lyrics and melodies of this song are some of the most beautifully composed I’ve heard and move me every time I listen. - Omar Zehery
