Homesick this is not, nor is it your more traditional A Day To Remember. But there is no need to worry because front man Jeremy McKinnon has stated “2nd Sucks” and “All I Wanted” are the polar opposites on What Separates Me From You, which is due out November 16th on Victory Records.

Despite its short length, tuning in at a mere 2:27, “2nd Sucks” shows a more brutal side from A Day To Remember as the nostalgic Mortal Kombat “Fight” sound effect immediately pulls you into the song. The drums hit hard and McKinnon’s screams weave in and out of the massive, chugging guitar.

The guitar tones in the song are ones you’d expect from a more stereotypical metalcore band, but perhaps A Day To Remember had their critics in mind when creating the song. McKinnon’s vocals also seem to be more natural this go around, which should make songs like these much better live.

Lyrically, “2^nd Sucks” might be the angriest song A Day To Remember has ever released as McKinnon growls “I speak the truth // And everybody else knows it // So set your ego to the side // And just get the fuck over it.” Simple but serving.

Though the entire song might seem like one long breakdown to some, after a few spins the parts seem to weave together well while showing off the heavier side of A Day To Remember. It will be interesting to see how the band bridges the gap between their two released singles.
