PropertyOfZack streamed Troubled Coast’s fantastic new EP yesterday, and now we’re teaming up with the band to do a Track-By-Track. I’ve Been Thinking About Leaving You is out today via our friends at Pure Noise Records, and you can order it here. Check out the Track-By-Track from the band below!
Patient Hands:
The song is mostly about faith loss. About two people being pulled further away from and pushed closer to religion. One day a simple conversation between a close friend and I led us to realize that we were both very unsure of everything. We were both having doubts. Consequently, I ended up leaving our faith. She ended up closer to it. I believed her motivations were based around comfort. Though, I hope she meant it. I still respect her very much and hope she is right but, unfortunately, I feel most deeply that she is not. This is what I was thinking about while writing these lyrics; about watching friends and young people making life changing decisions based around certain beliefs; about the people around me who crumble when their worlds are shaken or fall apart when faith and reality don’t align. I just want to tell them they’ll be ok and that everything doesn’t happen for a reason.
Somehow hands became very integrated into this song. There almost like the main character…if there could be one. At least, I think so. In which ways I’m not completely sure. What they mean, I can vaguely grasp. But they are there catching, waiting, holding, letting go, being anything but patient anymore. I realize, too, that “uncatching” is not a word but I see no problems with making new words to describe or encompass a feeling or thought you can’t find words for.
I’m Still A Loner, Dottie:
I think jealousy is one of the most pathetic emotions. First-world jealousy that is. True and deep jealousy for things and needs essential to life is completely legitimate and calls for real attention. But the jealousy most privileged people experience, typically evoked by insecurity or entitlement is just sad. In a strange and convoluted way, this song is about the jealousy I use to feel and how free I felt when I let it all go. Though, in the aftermath of this freedom I still sometimes think it would be better to live alone than to ever let the Hyde inside me come out again.
La Jetee:
The best explanation for this song would just be to watch the movie. It’s one of my favorites. I think it really inspires urgency. To seize every moment while the world will allow it before everything goes to hell. To take our peacetime lives and make them the most we can while we still have them.
The First Night Of The New World:
This song was meant to compliment Deadhorse’s (post-rock band from Erie, PA who we had the privilege of touring with) song “Last Night of the World.” Every night on tour Brian, their guitar player, would start off the set by introducing an idea, in essence, it was that we can create our own world. When our song was constructed Deadhorse’s epic symphonic movement was in mind. When I wrote the lyrics I meant to tell a story, inspired by Brian’s ideas, about a new Adam and Eve free to create something new in a new world. What was once called sin was no longer. What once made waves in society might now seem forgetful. I was really just having fun and playing with thoughts of what we’re so concerned with and what the world might be if we lent our concern somewhere more important. Download Deadhorse’s “Last Night of the World” and listen to it first then listen to this song directly after.
