“Demos are like balloons. Sometimes they get away from you before you are done with ‘em.” Those words of Taking Back Sunday’s Adam Lazzara magically appeared on Twitter the same time the first taste of material from the new-old Taking Back Sunday appeared online.
“Best Places To Be A Mom” is only a pre-production demo at this point, but that might be the most exciting thing to most; due to the quality, it sounds very similar to Tell All Your Friends but with a combination of all four Taking Back Sunday records.
Energy is the key to the track as TBS sounds more alive than they did on New Again, but they’re able to keep the same musical progression that the album represents. The constant guitar riff throughout can do nothing but remind you of Nolan’s work on “You Know How I Do” and when that’s paired with great drum work by Mark O’Connell and the best vocals Lazzara has dropped in a long time, a sort of nostalgia surfaces that you know all to well if Tell All Your Friends is still your favorite TBS record.
The track is subject to change as the band is recording the final version of the song, but more than anything it gives a taste of what’s to come: an album combined of all Taking Back Sunday’s past work with a resurgence of energy. The joke is old now, but if the band could go back and change time to call this record New Again, they would.
