The next Playlist in our ongoing series features our friends in Mixtapes, Mightier Than Sword Records, and Kind Of Like Records. We’re big fans of the band and both labels at PropertyOfZack, so we thought it’d be great to match them together. Check out the Playlists and listen to the songs while reading everyone’s thoughts!

The Ataris - Bad Case Of Broken Heart

During the winter months, Brooklyn becomes this desolate place after dark. It’s the only time of year that no one’s on the streets. Sometimes it gets a little eerie not having anyone around, but, at the same time, it’s sorta comforting to finally be alone. In the summer, it’s so crowded here, you can’t breathe, but the winter weather allows you the room you need. Here’s a playlist of the songs I listen to on those late walks home, or the early morning walks to clear my head. - Lisa Garelick

Joe Christmas - Scrabble Girl
This is a perfect song I think to start off a mixtape. It only has about 4 lines and is 5 minutes of awesome and catchy guitar work and it all makes the lyrics that are there count so much more. The lyrics are “there’s something rad about the exciting and the new, there’s something rad about getting to know you, you don’t need a reason it’s always in season, to stay out all night long, rocking to the same old songs, and staying up til night turns into dawn” and it’s perfectly done.
The Benjamins - Wonderful
It’s funny because I never got into alot of the Drive Thru bands like everyone else minus a few (Home Grown and Allister, shouts out to Eric, although later Home Grown sucked). And also The Benjamins, who never got any of the credit they deserved. To my knowledge this song was from the only album they ever made and it’s such a great album and this song is a high point. It’s just nerdy sounding indie rock with an almost Weezer type vibe with great lyrics and melodies, download this stuff.
Invalids - Sappy Song
This comes from the album out of my head and it’s a classic 3 chord pop punk album. This could possibly be my favorite love song ever, from the snotty dual vocals and the simple but effective lyrics. If you listen to this song one time it will be stuck in your head, and although it might not be my overall favorite song from this record it is the standout track. I’ve always wanted to cover this song and maybe one day, we will. Plus any song mentioning taking a girl to burger king wins.
The Promise Ring - The Deep South
One of my favorite bands, and this is off of my favorite record by them. There is alot of debate on the best promise ring record but it doesn’t matter to me because I love them all. This is for sure the poppiest one and this is a simple song with great lyrics, and I think that’s exciting.
The Replacements - Shiftless When Idle
I would definitely say that the longer the Replacements were together the better they got. Also some of their last tracks recorded before they broke up make me sad they didn’t stay together because they are wonderful (Pool and Dive). However, some of their early work and especially this song make me want to destroy something in a great way. the Replacements are one of the greatest rock bands ever, and this is a song that shows why.
House Boat - My Life Hurts
This is a beautifully depressing song. If something doesn’t pull your heart strings when you hear “My hair is falling out, my teeth are fucking caving in, and pretty girls won’t talk to me cause I’m a nervous little shit, I screwed it up, I fucked it up, I fucked it up what else is new” then you are a bad person. Both of their full lengths are pretty much perfect and if you don’t like them then shut up.
Kleenex Girl Wonder - Why I Write Such Good Songs
Graham Smith has written a ton of songs and a decent amount of them are basically perfectly written songs in my humble opinion. This song musically and lyrically is about as flawless as a pop/rock song can be. Look it up, listen, and try not to love it.
Sicko - High Hopes
When I first got the record this song is on, “You are not the boss of me”, I literally wore it out, I think for a year or two i listened to it at least twice a day while driving around or in my room. I’ve bought multiple copies of it throughout the years, it’s just one of those records. I couldn’t begin to pick a favorite song from the record but this song is pretty much perfect. Sicko, reunion, plz?
Apples in Stereo - That’s Something I Do
This is a song where the recording quality somehow makes it better. It’s a fuzzy lo-fi love song with great lyrics, and ridiculously awesome harmonies. When you are with that special girl in the car, put this song on, look into her eyes, grab her hand, and sing her this song, and she will no doubt fall in love for you. If she doesn’t she will at least let you take her to dinner.
Superchunk - Hyper Enough
Best guitar lead of all time, yup. - Ryan Rockwell
