It’s been a long time since Fireworks has released new material, but it’s been worth the wait. “I Grew Up In A Legion Hall,” a track on their new Bonfires EP, is a pop-punk anthem that is perfect not only for fans of the band, but for fans of the Defend Pop Punk movement as well. A song for their youth, “Legion Hall” will surely turn into one of those moments you get lost in live with David Mackinder singing, “There’s nothing I’d rather do // Than break fire codes with you.” And there’s nothing you can do but sing or shout along. It might not exactly be a new formula for the band, but there’s something about the track stands out from the band’s past. Most similar to “I Support Same Sex Marriage” on All I Have To Offer, guitars courtesy of Chris Mojan and Brett Jones and drums by Tymm Rengers push the track to new levels. But “Legion Hall” hits its high in its closing seconds as gang vocals are present equally alongside Mackinder, and they trade off singing, “You make me feel like it’s not there at all // You make me feel stronger than it all.” Bonfires is said to be a mix of the band’s fastest and slowest songs, and, at this point, the boys show that they haven’t missed a step mixing both sides together to create a song that will soon be one that cannot be skipped over in their discography. ****/*****
