PropertyOfZack had a chance to chat with all the guys in Amely on the second date of their tour in support of Sparks The Rescue earlier this month. We figured it’d be a great way to close out the year as Amely already have plans for major touring and recording a full-length in the New Year. Read up and enjoy!

For the record, could you state your name and role in Amely?
Petie: I’m Petie and I sing and play guitar.
Nate: I’m Nate and I play the drums.
Brandon: I’m Brandon and I play guitar.
Patrick: I’m Patrick and I play bass.

The band signed to Fearless Records back in January and released Hello World. How has your relationship with Fearless been so far?
Petie: Fantastic. It’s been great. Even during the process of recording Hello World, there was a time when we were in Atlanta recording with Zack and Kenneth and we wanted to record a 7th song and they allowed us to do that. We wanted to record some more songs after that in LA and they were cool with that too. They’ve been really open to suggestion.

Hello World was released back in September. Three months later, how has the reception been?
Petie: It’s been great. This is actually the first tour that we have off of it since its been released. We haven’t toured.
Brandon: It’s been awesome.

How did you guys enjoy your time in the studio?
Petie: It was awesome because we as a band had never been in a real studio together to record any sort of CD like that. It was awesome and the fact that we got to record some of it in Atlanta with Zack and Kenneth and then went to LA and did two or three other songs with Mike Green was awesome too. A couple of us had never been to LA, so it was a cool experience.
Nate: It was cool because we got to see two separate production teams and how they work. It was like two different ways of doing it. It was a good learning experience for all of us.

The “Christmas Brings Me Down” Tour with Sparks The Rescue only started yesterday, but how was the show and are you looking forward to the rest of them?
Full band: Good.
Nate: A lot of people were singing the words and we like to see that.
Brandon: It’s always great when we’ve never played in that city before. We had never played in New Hampshire. We’ve never played in the cities in a good majority of the dates on this tour.
Petie: With the exception of three or four dates, but other than that it’ll be interesting to see people in areas that we’ve never been.
Nate: New markets.

After the tours over the band will be playing holiday shows with VersaEmerge, There For Tomorrow, and Conditions throughout Florida. That should be a pretty great tour, are you stoked for that one?
Nate: Real stoked.
Petie: It’s going to be awesome because we’re playing the city where we’re based out of, Orlando. We’re playing my hometown, Ft. Lauderdale. We’ve played Jacksonville, Atlanta, and Tampa all before.
Patrick: Versa and There For Tomorrow are all from Florida too.
POZ: It’s a very solid lineup.
Petie: Yeah, it should be a lot of fun.

There aren’t any dates for 2011 announced at this point. When should we be seeing some pop up?
Petie: Yeah, absolutely. We’re kind of looking for some tours right now and are working some different things out. We’ll definitely be touring all of next year.
Brandon: Starting in probably late February.

Obviously the EP has a ton of life left in it, but have you guys kept writing for a possible full-length or another EP?
Petie: It’s funny you mention that, I actually went on a trip to Nashville to write with some people, so that was cool. Just a few weeks ago. That was like a month after the CD came out. It’s cool to start writing already for the next record.
Brandon: We’re spending most of January writing and demoing out a bunch of songs that we’ve been writing lately.
Petie: We’ll all be writing.
Patrick: Even from tracking the last song for recording Hello World we were starting to write our next thing and were trying to evolve our sound already. We’re just so addicted to being in the studio and exploring sounds and stuff like that.

How is the new stuff sounding compared to Hello World?
Patrick: We’re really excited about it.
Petie: It’ll definitely be a step forward and a little bit of an advancement for us, seeing that we’re getting tighter as a band and are playing together all the time and becoming closer as friends on the road. You can definitely expect to hear a little bit more of the “Hello World” influence, the actual track’s influence in it.

Would you say the band will hit the studio within the first half of 2011?
Brandon: We haven’t talked about the actual date or the time yet, we’re just trying to get some songs and get a solid direction for what we want to do. Then we’ll look more into the dates.
Petie: We’re still trying to push Hello World really hard. Stay out on the road as much as possible.
Brandon: We want to make sure also that the full-length isn’t rushed at all. We’ll record it at the right time, wait for that, and see how Hello World does.

The band recorded “Christmas Time Again” for Fearless’s holiday album. Was that a fun experience to just kind of mix it up a little?
Petie: Yeah, I’ve wanted to record a Christmas song for years, even in my old bands. We all love Christmas and the holidays. It was cool to be able to write an original Christmas song.
Brandon: It was really weird at first ‘cause when you record a Christmas song months in advance you’re not really in the spirit. It took us a minute to get in the spirit.
Petie: Brandon learned like 30 Christmas songs on guitar to get in the spirit in September. My neighbors were confused when they heard us singing Christmas songs all day [Laughs].
Brandon: We’re really excited about how that song turned out. We’re really excited to get to make Christmas songs. We had fun doing it.
Patrick: We’d been talking about, probably since last Christmas, how we wanted to do a Christmas EP or something.
Petie: Fun fact about our song is that we actually wrote it in about four or five hours in my bedroom. Then we recorded it a few weeks later.
POZ: It’s got to be cool to be with Fearless with all those compilations they do every year.
Petie: It’s really great for all the fans and stuff. It’s always good having something new for the fans. I know a lot of people heard of us from the samplers they got this summer.

Thanks so much for your time, is there anything else we should be on the lookout for?
Brandon: Keep up with us on Facebook.com/AmelyMusic and Twitter as well. Buy our album. We also put up some live acoustic videos. Just keep us with our tour dates.
