D.R.U.G.S have slowly been releasing songs off of their debut album, and it’s a diverse group of tracks to say the least. Their latest single not only makes up for the monumental error in “Sex Life,” but also undoubtedly takes the crown for the best of the four tracks release to this point.
Regardless of its name, “My Swagger Has A First Name” is an utterly domineering song that features intense screams, haunting lead guitar parts, and thrashing drums. The track begins with eerie guitars from Nick Martin and Matt Good before D.R.U.G.S give fans the first taste of Martin’s crushing screams on the record. It will be incredibly upsetting if Martin’s screams aren’t utilized throughout the record as they are in “Swagger.”
Craig Owens quickly and seamlessly takes over singings duties on the track with a pleasant variation in his typical vocals that match perfectly with Aaron Stern’s light drumbeats. Owens shines in the chorus as backing gang-vocals and drums keep up the tempo of the song in order to set the ground for a throaty and heartfelt delivery.
“My Swagger Has A First Name” closes with Martin’s desperate screams in an even more impressive manner than in the intro before the fading out the song’s eerie guitar intro.
