PropertyOfZack Interview : : fun.

I’m very happy to share my exclusive five question interview with Andrew Dost from fun. If you haven’t listened to this band I suggest you take the time to. I’d like to thank Andrew for taking the time to answer your questions. I hope you enjoy the read.

1.     When fun. was first started did Nate have a whole set of songs
pre-written or did everybody collaborate in the writing process?

Nate had a few started, which we dismantled and reconstructed.  I had
one started as well.  The rest, we built from the ground up together.

2.     What was it like getting a tour with Jack’s Mannequin before you evenannounced a band name? And how was the tour itself?

It was really amazing to have so much support right away.  We put in a
lot of work with our other bands, and it was nice to know that all
still meant something.  The tour itself was amazing, the Jack’s guys
are really great, and it was nice to finally play our songs in front
of people.  It was an acoustic tour, so we couldn’t really give the
songs the full treatment, but it was an interesting challenge to
restructure them.  One of my favorite tours ever.

3.     Did you expect Aim & Ignite to receive such acclaim as it has?

I’m not sure.  It’s hard to tell what to expect when you’re recording,
you get so involved in the little world you’re creating, and it’s hard
to distance yourself from it, and decide whether it’s something
“listenable” or if you’ve just indulged your weird musical fantasies
for 2 months and everybody will hate it.  We were very proud of the
record all along, but it’s hard to distinguish that feeling from what
fans or critics will think.  The response has been very kind!

4.     How did the idea for the “All The Pretty Girls” video come about?

We had received a few great ideas from Isaac Rentz, the director, but
nothing we were 100% sure was the idea.  So we got together with him
and had a conference call, and just started spewing ideas out
together.  We thought running through the streets would be awesome,
and we wanted some sort of a twist ending, but that was Isaac’s when
he came back at us with another idea after the call.  It was a very
pleasant surprise, he’s a really creative and talented guy.

5.     What do you guys have on the table for 2010? Tours? Recording?

Lots and lots of tours. I’ll be releasing a solo e.p. this year, and
Jack has a Steel Train record nearly finished, but as far as fun.
stuff goes, we’ll just be traveling, playing the jams, and maybe doing
a bit of writing.

Thanks!
