The MxPx All Stars are out on an East Coast fall tour, and we’re so stoked to have them be doing a Road Blog for PropertyOfZack to keep fans updated while out on the road. Check out the first Road Blog below and come back for more next week!
From Jack Parker:
After 11 amazing shows in Japan and Southeast Asia, Mike (Herrera), Harley (Trotland), and myself (Jack Parker) returned home to Bremerton, WA for a five day break before heading out again, only this time we would be joining up with Unwritten Law, and our friends FLF from Cape Coral, Florida to tour the U.S. East Coast.
Five days at home was just enough time to get over our jetlag (the time difference in SE Asia is 14-16 hours, and our flights home took 30 hours of total travel time). The top story on the news the morning we were to leave (Saturday) for Atlanta was the approaching hurricane Sandy, an unprecedented, and possibly devastating storm forecasted to hit landfall on the East Coast Monday evening.
The three of us hopped on a red-eye to Atlanta that night, and after a chilly layover in Houston, we landed in Atlanta, GA at around 11:30am local time and met up with our friends from FLF Shane, Jason, Eddie, and Jose (Jose would be joining us on guitar as well as playing in FLF). We all hopped in our rented Mercedes sprinter van loaded with gear and headed to the Masquerade (with a quick detour at the fanciest Waffle House ever for lunch).
After a great first show, we were all very tired from flying/driving (the FLF guys drove all night from FL to meet up with us), so we headed to Harley’s cousins house nearby to sleep for the night.
The next day we woke up refreshed, and headed up the road to our next gig in Columbia, SC.
We were all aware of the approaching storm, but didn’t really talk about it much. Probably because we were all feeling a little nervous about its potential for serious damage. We were eventually headed straight for it.
We got to the New Brookland Tavern just in time to load-in and set-up, as we were running a little late.
All the bands played great sets including Versus The World who would be joining the tour. For the Mx set Mike’s voice was feeling a bit under the weather due to lack of sleep, and some pretty drastic climate change coming from tropical Asia, so some of the guys from The Swellers came up and sang a few of the songs with us. They were in town a day early for their own show at the New Brookland the next night. They did awesome! The show was tons of fun.
We ended up driving South again to stay with more of Harley’s cousins (Brian and Lindsay) in Charleston, SC.
The next day was an off day, so Brian and Lindsay took us sightseeing all over historic Charleston. It was a great day off! We all got to bed fairly early, and all got caught up on valuable sleep.
As I write this we are in the van once again, this time on our way to the next gig at The Milestone in Charlotte, NC!
