PropertyOfZack Interview : : The Dangerous Summer

I’m happy to be posting my interview with Aj from The Dangerous Summer. We did a quick interview before the first day of their tour with The Audition. Everyone give a big thanks to Aj and enjoy the read!
1. For the record, could you state your name and role in the band?
I’m Aj and I sing and play bass in the band.
2. As you know, Reach For The Sun had been getting great reviews for months after it’s release. So what feeling did you get a few weeks ago when the album was voted the number one album of 2009 on AbsolutePunk?
That was awesome. Especially to make it that far on that list. AbsolutePunk, they’re rough. It’s awesome that people support us that hardcore. We’re real pumped about it and real happy about 2009 in general.
3. You played one of The Starting Line reunion shows towards the end of December, can you describe that experience for the band? And how did it come together?
It was surreal. We all grew up listening to The Starting Line. It was just mind blowing to be a part of their comeback. We actually are really good friends with Kenny. He hooked it up, and it went awesome.
POZ: Was that one of the bigger shows you guys have played?
Aj: Yeah, it was huge. It was sold out. It was probably one of our biggest, if not the biggest show we’ve ever played.
4. You guys are literally just started this tour with The Audition, are you looking forward to getting back on the road?
Yeah, hell yeah. We’re real pumped, it’s been probably like a month since we’ve been on the road. We’re just glad to be out there.
POZ: What are some of your favorite things to do while home?
Aj: I just like to sleep and relax since I’m always out on tour.
5. Near the end of last year there were rumors going around that TDS we’re going to start working on your second album, can you give us any time estimate on when that process will begin?
We’ve been writing a ton on our new record and we’re just taking our time with it, but we probably won’t be recording for a long time. We have a lot of time to write, which is awesome.
6. Will you guys be announcing more tours after this finishes up? Going overseas possibly?
We don’t know exactly what we’re doing after this tour, but we have a bunch of options and we’re going to announce them pretty soon so it’s going to be tight.
POZ: Do you guys ever see yourself going overseas?
Aj: We want to but we haven’t heard anything about that. We’re waiting for it.
7. Recently you guys supported Mayday Parade on a short tour, how was that experience?
That was awesome, it was crazy. Sold out every night and there were so many kids. They’re awesome dudes, they let us just chill on their bus all the time.
8. What are some of the releases you’re looking forward to in 2010?
I’m trying to think what I’m looking forward to. What’s coming out this year?
POZ: Motion City just came out. blink could come out…
Aj: I haven’t checked Motion yet, but blink could be awesome. That’d be awesome. Definitely blink.
9. Over the past few weeks Cody has been stressing that TDS is not a pop-punk band. Two questions, one, regardless of how meaningless genres are starting to become, where do you place yourself in the music scene? And two, is there any reason you guys are trying to disregard yourself from the pop-punk genre?
We just think we’re a little more music oriented than the pop-punk thing and we don’t wear like the flashy bright colors. And we’ve been touring with people like Ace Enders and Person L, we feel like we fit in there and it’s like “who’s calling them pop-punk?” We just feel that we’re not like them.
10. A couple months ago you played here with Straylight Run. How were those guys?
They’re awesome, it was real tight. Brian Bonz is awesome too. We made some good friends on that tour.
11. So, 2009 was for sure the biggest year you guys have ever had, do you think this year will keep going?
Yeah, we’re looking forward to just keep building and doing a lot bigger tours and releasing music that’s just awesome for this year.
12. You guys are very close with websites like AbsolutePunk, how do you think they help further you guys?
I mean just the news posts constantly week to week have been incredible and just the support they give us is insane. The kids there, they don’t hate us as much as you’d think.
13. Thank you so much for your time, is there anything else you’d like to add?
If you haven’t heard us check us out. Thank you.
