It’s no secret by now that we’re big fans of The Dangerous Summer over here at PropertyOfZack. That being said, we couldn’t help but do yet another interview with AJ Perdomo when he asked to chat just a few weeks ago. In our brief interview, AJ and I discussed the delays for the record as well as the possibility of Tyler returning to drums on future tours, among other things. Read up and enjoy!

You’re in the beginning stages of your tour with Sparks The Rescue, The Graduate, and The Scenic. How are the dates going so far?
It’s been awesome, man. We put this tour together because it’s with all of our friends. We’re friends with every single band on this tour. We’ve known them for forever. One of our first full US tours ever was with Sparks The Rescue. It just kind of made sense to play around with it.

We’ve spoken in the past how it’s important for you to have the right lineup. Is this the right lineup?
Yeah, it’s so hard. Us and Sparks have seen the effects of touring with random bands. They’ve been on tours that don’t make sense and we’ve been on tours where it just hasn’t made sense. Who do you really tour with if you’re an original band that’s trying to make their own way?

How have the shows been without Tyler?
It’s been cool. We’ve had two different drummers: We had a drummer in the UK with us and Kyle. They’re both incredible drummers and we get along great with them. We’ve actually been talking about Tyler. He might do a tour or two with us if he gets the time. He just basically went to school. We’re finally really good friends again. We’re just talking it up. He kind of wants to come out and do a few more things. We’re still talking about it. We don’t really sweat it. The Dangerous Summer is always just going to be the core.
POZ: That could always be an option in the future?
AJ: Yeah, he can come in and out. We’d love to have him play with us again whenever he feels like it. There’s no bad blood at all.

The sets full of Reach For The Sun and a new song, “Everything Left.” How has the reception to that been?
It’s awesome. People are really stoked about it. I actually posted the lyrics along with a live video. People are getting the feel for it. I just can’t wait to start releasing stuff. I’ve actually been writing on the road trying to settle up the album.

The acoustic record was also just released. Have fans been into that?
Yeah, people have loved that. I think it’s awesome that we released that. We released it at the perfect time where people are waiting for new music and here’s something we can give you. Me and Cody worked hard on that in his basement. We brought it to the studio. It’s our own thing, kind of. It’s cool.
POZ: Would you guys be cool with doing more stuff in the future?
AJ: Yeah, the whole idea came about when we got the Dashboard Confessional record and it comes with the whole acoustic version of the normal album. That’s pretty sick. We thought that was really cool. You get something different every time you hear a song differently. We love acoustic. Maybe we’ll do our next album acoustic too. We love the idea of expanding.

When we spoke before you went to the UK you said you wanted to finish the record before this tour. Can you walk us through the delays?
It’s not really delayed. When we’re writing an album we’re really picky. Revisions and revisions. We haven’t been doing anything but music. When we get home we get to work; we don’t sweat it. We have a studio on tour. I set up every day and write lyrics. When we get back we’re going to track everything in five days. We basically wrote the whole album. We just kind of want to make everything perfect. We just want to get it right. It’ll be out this summer. It’s not as delayed as we thought it would be. We’re going to track it the first week of getting home. We’re going to get it over with. Hopefully we go to the UK after that. We go to Warped Tour in the summer. We can’t do too much US touring before Warped.

Obviously many people thought the record was going to come out before Warped, but will it come out in the beginning stages of it?
During Warped, but I don’t know when.
POZ: Will we hear a song or two before that?
AJ: Yeah, we’ll definitely release a single as soon as we get done.

Has it been frustrating?
It drives me crazy to write. I do get frustrated. We try to keep our cool. We have the time. No one is rushing Picasso to paint whatever famous painting.
POZ: Will you be finishing up with Paul?
AJ: He’ll be finishing up with us. It’s mostly done. All the instruments are recorded. We just may change a few keys and melodies.

There were a bunch of Australian rumors because of a bigger offer. Will that be US?
We have lots of stuff in the works. We’re going to release it when the time’s right. Lots of secrets in The Dangerous Summer camp. A big tour though. All big tours. We’re trying to make it happen.
