PropertyOfZack Interview : : That’s Outrageous!
Rise Records newest signee, That’s Outrageous!, were kind enough to do one of their first interviews with PropertyOfZack. Tom DeGrazia and I discussed the signing, their debut album, touring, and more. Read up below!
For the record, could you state your name and role in That’s Outrageous!?
My name’s Tom DeGrazia and I sing and play piano.
It was announced that the band signed to Rise Records towards the end of March. How quickly did talks between you and Rise begin after the band was formed?
It was quite crazy actually, Rise hit us up about a month or two after we first posted our songs on Purevolume.
Were there any trepidations considering that That’s Outrageous! is such a new band to the point where you guys haven’t even toured yet?
There wasn’t really any doubt or nervousness on our side, I can’t really speak for Rise because I’m not sure how they felt. But we have all toured and performed live in other bands in the past, we definitely aren’t newcomers to the scene.
The band is currently in the studio with Cameron Mizell, who has never quite produced music in this field before. What made you choose him and how is it working with him?
Working with Cameron was a blast, we really meshed well and we all
believe the album came out way better than expected. We pretty much wrote
the whole album over a period of 4 weeks (two weeks before leaving the
studio, and two weeks during our studio time). Luckily, it came out sounding
as if we had been working on these songs for months and we are all super
“#Winning” was released to give listeners an idea of what to expect from the full-length. How was the reaction to it?
I’d say overall the reaction was pretty good. Any band is going to have it’s trolls and haters, but we as a band try to steer clear of all that. Everyone is allowed have their opinion and we respect it one hundred percent.
There was a good amount of negative response in regards to the pop-culture title and to the similar sound to some other bands in the genre. How would you respond to those comments?
It’s really hard to do anything these days and be labeled “Original”. We are writing and playing the music we would want to hear when we turn on our ipods and car stereos. Everyone is going to have something to say about your band, be it good or bad. We’re just gonna keep doing our thing and hopefully people will dig it.
How many songs are you guys currently hoping to release on the album and is there a particular month that you’re aiming to have Teenage Scream released in?
The album will have 10-11 tracks, it’s definitely a very dynamic album. It has everything a band in our in genre should have plus more. We are super excited for it to come out.
The band will be heading out on the Rise Records Tour with Memphis May Fire, Decoder, and Ten After Two. How excited are you to get out on the road for the first time Are you guys prepared?
We are super excited about the Rise tour. There’s no better way to start off a band’s touring career than for it to be on your own label’s tour. We are gonna be playing 5-6 songs off the album.
What else can we expect from That’s Outrageous! in the near future?
Everyone can expect non-stop touring and lots of really fun stuff coming from us in the future months so be on the look-out!
Thanks so much for your time, is there anything else you’d like to add or that we should be on the lookout for?
