The Wonder Years ruled 2010’s End Of The Year lists with The Upsides, and just a year and a half later, the band is hoping to climb the charts once again with Suburbia I’ve Given You All And Now I’m Nothing. The record’s first single, “Local Man Ruins Everything,” gives a glimpse into the record that may surprise fans at first but will surely win them over within a few listens.

Soupy Campbell begins the track by harkening back to The Upsides’s “Logan Circle” singing “The fountain was off // This is the first time I’ve been back to the city in months” in a way that will not only get fans excited for the record but also intrigue their ears as well. It’s clear from the start that “Local Man” symbolizes a shift in The Wonder Years’s recording process; Soupy’s vocals sound much more raw and like they would in a live setting rather than how he thought they should sound on The Upsides, and credit should certainly be given to producer Steve Evetts.

Musically, the track is as sound as any other release The Wonder Years have ever had with new guitar explorations in the chorus and bridge that open up a whole new realm of possibility for the band. “Local Man Ruins Everything” reaches its high point while Soupy and the rest of the band trade off chanting, “I’m not a self-help book // I’m just a fucked up kid” until the track fades into its ending.
