Such Gold are always great to us over here at PropertyOfZack, so we couldn’t be more stoked to be posting our brand new Track-By-Track with the band. Ben Kotin, Such Gold’s lead singer, was kind enough to write-up the meaning behind each of the two songs on the band’s brand new split with Into It. Over It., which is out today via No Sleep and Mightier Than Sword Records. Read the details behind “Minstrels” and “The World That You Live In” below!
Minstrels:
The first track off of our split with Into It. Over It., called “Minstrels”, is short and fast song. The lyrics are based around the fact that the people who care so little about music, like the people who listen to the radio to and from work and don’t care what they listen to, have so much power in what becomes popular because their are so many of them. So because of this truly talented bands won’t make it as big as they could because their is always some clown standing in the way who’s appealing to the general public. With this in mind, when writing music, bands just have to know that it’s not about how big you get, it’s about whether you made the music that you were really proud of or not.
The World That You Live In
The second song is called “The World That You Live In”. This is more of a mid tempo song which we haven’t done much of in the past but I feel that it still carries a lot of energy. The lyrics in this song are about those interactions that many of us have with people that we don’t like but we haven’t seen in a long time. It seems very phony to me when someone acts super interested in your life only when you’re doing something cool, when before they couldn’t give a shit about you.
