Silverstein are heading out on the Scream It Like You Mean It Tour pretty soon with a whole arrangement of bands in the scene that could end up being a very memorable night for anyone who wants to go to a show! Shane was nice enough to talk about past tours, their DVD release, and their next record. Read up, it’s a good one!

For the record, could you state your name and role in Silverstein?

Shane - I sing.

To start off the year the band went on the Toursick Tour with A Day To Remember. How was that?

It was absolutely the most fun I’ve ever had on tour.  We had the best group of dudes, everyone got along so well.  We couldn’t ask for better shows, with such a strong lineup every show was sold out, and kids were just going nuts.  It was full of pranks too!  That’s always fun.

You guys played four-10 year anniversary reunion shows a couple months back in Toronto. Is it kind of crazy thinking that Silverstein has been around for 10 years and have established yourselves as a favorite in the scene?

It’s totally crazy.  Even though we’ve accomplished so much and done so many things, it’s still amazing how time flies by.  I can remember every show we played, and I can remember our first practice in Josh’s basement.  It’s really cool to be able to recall all that.  I just shake my head, I can’t believe it.

Decade, the live CD/DVD that was filmed during the anniversary shows is being released on June 8th. Are you excited for the fans who couldn’t make it to get a chance to see it? Should we expect any bonus footage on the DVD?

It came out so awesome!  We knew working with the best video director in Robby Starbuck, and the best mixer in Cameron Webb it would be great, but I don’t think we expected it to come out this amazing.  Everyone did such a great job.  It’s not put together like a typical rock concert video where it’s the same 5 shots over and over again for an hour.  It’s filmed a lot more artistic, but at the same time it’s still gritty and raw when the show was. It captures the true vibe. Another thing we didn’t want to do was just have it be song after song after song.  So there’s a lot of in between stuff, interviews with us and people who have been there with us for the last 10 years, and a lot of cool stuff.  Also all of our music videos are on it, we’re up to 10 now.

The Scream It Like You Mean It Tour kicks off on July 8th at Starland. The tours being sponsored by Peta 2, among others. How did you guys get involved in it?

We’ve been tight with Mike and Outerloop management for a long time now, and they always put together awesome festival tours so we jumped at the chance to headline this one.  The sponsors are great too, it’s always nice to see some support for the scene despite the economy and all that.  As for Peta, we’re all vegetarians so we have always been pretty supportive of what they’re doing over there.

The bill for the tour is pretty long, what do you think it’ll be like playing with that many bands every night?

It’ll definitely be a clusterfuck for the first few dates.  As long as everyone on the tour knows that going in, it’ll be ok.  Once we find our groove it’ll be totally fine.  I love tours with a lot of people on them, there’s always lots of hanging out, late night food trips, and walkabouts.  It’s great for kids because for a low cost, they can see a ton of music.  It’s a win-win.

A Shipwreck In The Sand was now released over a year ago. Is the band happy with the reception it’s gotten up to this point?

Yeah we’re stoked!  It’s one thing to be totally 100% happy in every conceivable way about a record right after you’ve finished it, but a year later I think the fact I still feel so confident in it is an amazing sign.  I honestly wouldn’t go back and change a single thing on that record.  I’m happy with it from start to finish.  The fans latched onto it from the beginning too, and I we get more requests for new songs than old songs.  That’s a great thing too!

You guys are booked up with touring through the beginning of August, but what can we expect to see announced for after the summer? Any chances of a European tour. Any chances you guys will be hitting the studio by the new year?

After this tour we’re going to finish up writing our new record (we’ve already got over 15 songs done musically), and then record it ASAP.  I’m not sure about any touring for the rest of the year, but you never know where or when we’ll pop up.

Considering it has been 10 years since Silverstein emerged into the scene, what are some of the things you’re most proud of that the band has accomplished?

We’ve definitely done things our own way, with integrity and without burning bridges.  We never dressed a certain way, or changed our music so we could get bigger or any bullshit like that.  We’ve stayed true to where we came from and the ideals that we grew up with.  It’s also been really cool and special to see the world, and make friends all over the world as well.  I’ve made lifelong friendships with some amazing people I would have never met without Silverstein.

What does the band hope to accomplish in a years time?

Hopefully this time next year we’ll be tour on a new record, and I know we’ll still be stoked on everything!

Thanks so much for your time, is there anything else you’d like to add?

Check out DECADE on Tuesday!
