I am extremely happy to be posting the PropertyOfZack interview with John Nolan of Taking Back Sunday. Check out the interview to read John’s thoughts about Taking Back Sunday’s first shows back, the future of the band, and the initial stages of their reunion. Enjoy!

When you and Adam first began talking over the phone again for the
first time in a long time, were there immediate intentions to reform
the original Taking Back Sunday, or did the phone calls eventually
lead to there?
We started talking after Mark and I had our first conversation about reforming. So the idea was in our heads, but our first conversations were about catching up with each other and seeing what it was like to communicate again.

What was it like when the 5 of you got back together in a room for
the first time in years? Was there pressure to make it work?
It was just a lot of fun for us. We had all been missing the camaraderie that we had back in those early years. At one time we had been like a family. A pretty dysfunctional family, but a family all the same. We were all so excited at the prospect of reconnecting, and so amazed at what was happening. Those feelings outweighed any of the pressure we felt.

Taking Back Sunday just played its first 6 shows with an original
lineup in 7 years. We know you guys were excited to get on stage, but
can you describe the energy you felt up there on stage?
It’s very hard to describe. It was one of the most overwhelmingly good things I’ve ever felt in my life.

How were fans reacting to the two new songs the band played? Also,
what was it like watching the reactions from the stage of fans hearing
“There’s No ‘I’ In Team”?
Fans reacted well to the new songs. There’s always a more subdued kind of response when it comes to new songs, but it always felt like people were interested and excited to hear them. With “No ‘I’ in Team” it was pretty insane to see the crowd from my vantage point. It looked like a raging human ocean.

What was it like playing “Existentialism” on the tour? Could you
see the band playing more/different Straylight Run songs on future
tours?
It was a lot of fun playing that song. We wanted to play “Big Shot” as well, but we didn’t have enough time to work on it with all the other songs we had to work out. We talked about trying to do that on a future tour. We’ll see.

In the press conferences you stated that Taking Back Sunday won’t
be playing anymore dates until the New Year. When you guys do head out
should we expect a nation-wide tour?
It’s way too early to know anything about our next tour.

Now that the shows are over will you continue demoing or will you
guys be hitting the studio to record the new album?
We’ll keep demoing new songs and continue to work on the demos we already recorded. We still have a little while before we’re actually in the studio.

Is it safe to say that the new, self-titled?, album will be released in between the winter and spring of 2011?
Again, way too early to say. The last thing we want to do is start telling people what to expect when we can’t be sure ourselves.

Pushing deeper into next year, after the new record is released and
there is a tour to support it, if Taking Back Sunday still feels
right, will it keep moving forward? As far as everyone can see, is the
reformed lineup a lineup that will continue making music and touring
together after this album?
Yeah, we’re planning to do this as long as there are people who want us to.

Thank you so much for your time, is there anything else you’d like to
add?
Nothing I can think of. Thanks!
