PropertyOfZack sat down with Frank, Nick, and Mitch from Moving Mountains a few weeks ago at Warped Tour to do a quick interview. The band and I discussed how Warped Tour was going, the reception to Waves, future touring with Thrice, and more. Read up and enjoy!

For the record, could you state your names and roles in Moving Mountains?
Frank: I play guitar in Moving Mountains.
Nick: I’m Nick, I play drums.
Mitch: I’m Mitch, I play bass.

This has been such a big year for Moving Mountains from the Biffy tour to SXSW to the release of the record, and now Warped Tour. Can you just sum up how within the last seven months your career as a band has essentially just eclipsed everything you’ve been able to do in the past?
Frank: It has been a big year, and it’s been cool to watch. You can definitely see and feel the progression, especially with touring. We’re really in the swing of things with constant touring.

Do you think Triple Crown has really opened things up for you?
Mitch: I think so. It’s been great. The way they work is that they let us do our thing, which is what we’ve been doing since we started. They were not the kind of label to come in and be like, “Alright, let’s do this and this and this.” They let us continue to do our thing and are helping us out in other areas.
Nick: The way Fred runs the label really works well with how our band works. It’s a good match.

How has Warped Tour been for the band so far?
Nick: It’s been crazy. There have been really long days and it’s a very different tour than we’ve done before.

How have fans been treating you on Warped? I’d imagine it could be hit or miss on some dates just because of your sound compared to a lot of the other bands?
Frank: We’ve felt it. It’s something different for us though. It’s the best way to describe it. It’s pretty cool and we’re going to be doing another tour in the fall where we’ll maybe be playing to some other fans that didn’t make it out to Warped Tour.
Mitch: We’re also playing to new areas. We never played in Indiana before and we’re going to Florida. We expected things to be slow in the west because it’s a new region for us.
Frank: There are a lot of good bands on this tour. They’re the gems though. They’re not the advertised bands for the most part, the ones that I like.

Has the band mostly been playing songs off Waves?
Nick: For the most part. We’re playing two songs off Foreward and one song off of Pneuma. It’s probably about half Waves, half the other stuff.

Waves is definitely a change of sound for you guys at the end of the day, but have older fans been able to make the shift with you?
Nick: We don’t know. The Pneuma lovers that weren’t stoked about the newer stuff stopped following us.
Mitch: I think it goes both ways. There are some people who don’t like the new stuff so much, but there are definitely fans I know that love all three records and like it.
Frank: Waves isn’t trying to be anything we’re not.
Mitch: We feel that Waves is more us than our older stuff is. If they like the older stuff more it’s weird because that’s not who we are now. We wouldn’t have released it otherwise.

Have you guys gained a lot of new fans from the release?
Nick: There are kids from Warped that said they heard our stuff on the Warped sampler and saw us live. It’s been good.

Nothing is on the books for after Warped. When can we see some new announcements in terms of dates?
Frank: We’re going on tour with Thrice in the fall. We’re doing a full six-week Canadian tour. We are very, very excited about that. So kids who want to see us in that element can.
POZ: Everything is building so much this year.
Nick: It’s nice. Warped kind of happened right after Waves came out, so this is our support for that and Thrice is our club support tour.

Will the band finally be heading out overseas by the end of this year?
Nick: In the coming year we’re going to try to.
Frank: We keep saying we are, and then it doesn’t work out.
Mitch: Most certainly next year.

Are there any more b-sides from the record that have yet to be released?
Mitch: Everything that we released is what we recorded. We’re already talking about writing again next spring.
