PropertyOfZack was able to get behind Paramore’s setup at the Honda Civic Tour to do a short interview with Kadawatha. Even though New Found Glory was blasting their hits in the background, Daniel from Kadawatha and I spoke about the band’s time on the tour, their just released EP, and the future of the band. Be sure to read up!

For the record, could you state your names and rolls in Kadawatha?
Daniel: I’m Daniel Kadawatha, lead singer and I play guitar.
Andreas: Andreas, I play the bass.
Jacob: Jacob, I play guitar and sing back up vocals.

So the Honda Civic Tour started just over a week or two ago. How has your time been on it so far?
Daniel: It’s been good. It’s been better than expected and the response from the audience has been way better than expected. We feel like we develop as a band and musically in everyway together.

Did you think it would be intimidating at all to go in front of such a large crowd every night?
Daniel: Intimidating, like uncomfortable?
POZ: Just like a big change.
Daniel: Yeah, I think we’ve gotten used to it on these few gigs that we’ve had, so now it feels good.
Andreas: The first one was a little scary.
Daniel: Now it’s all good. You kind of get into it pretty fast.

Being that you’re in international band, were there any worries with being out on the road for such a long time?
Daniel: Yeah, but it’s definitely been better than expected. We’ve got a great tour manager and a great van to travel in and it’s just great people to tour with. The Paramore guys. I bet it would be different if we toured with another band. It’s all about the circumstances.

How have the fans been receiving you every night?
Full band: Very good.
Jacob: It’s different to see how they sound when we get out there, but then after they’ll ask us for autographs. They buy the record.

How did you guys get on the tour?
Daniel: I met Paramore a few years ago. I actually met Chris York, Taylor York’s bigger brother, and he introduced me to Taylor and me and Taylor became very good friends. We stayed in touch ever since and we played a show with them in Sweeden last year. When this tour came along they asked us if we wanted to do it, so.

You guys released a three-song EP not too long ago. How is it playing the material off of it?
Daniel: Actually, the stuff we play isn’t that new, but it always feels new because the people here haven’t heard it before. So for them it’s new. For us it’s old. As long as the audience feels that the music is fresh then it’s almost the same for us.

When were those tracks recorded?
Daniel: Those tracks were recorded…
Jacob: Over a really long period [Laughs].
Daniel: I recorded most of the tracks almost two years ago, or maybe a little bit less. We added some stuff this year, but it’s spread out. Different studios and a lot recorded at home. It’s a mix between different recordings.

Will you guys be preparing a full-length album any time soon?
Daniel: We don’t have a deal.
Full band: We want to.
Daniel: We are recording a record.
Andreas: We need money and somebody to back it up. We’ll see what happens.

If things do go right for you guys, when would you like to have the album out by?
Daniel: I would love to have it out this winter. Record it this fall. Release it this winter or next spring.

How has the writing process for this album been different for the writing process in the past?
Daniel: Actually, this album is the stuff that I wrote a very long time ago. These songs that we play here…Some of those songs were written long before Kadawatha was even a band. So some of these songs are really old. It feels strange to release a record now when the songs are so long and I’m already writing stuff for the next album and we haven’t even released the first one yet. All the songs are finished. We just need to record them.

Do you see this tour as a possible breakthrough to get some major backing?
Daniel: Yeah, there’s some labels here today and we’re gonna talk to them later. It’s always hard to know what the labels really think. We’ll just keep doing out thing and hope that some label will respond to that and won’t want to change anything about what we do. We’re in search of a record label like that.

Will Kadawatha be releasing any more tour dates after this finishes up?
Daniel: We don’t have any yet.
Jacob: We don’t know what’s going to happen.

So the plan is to just keep recording and hopefully find a label before you start touring again?
Daniel: I don’t think that we know what the next step is after this tour. Right now we don’t know anything. We’ll see what happens.

What’s your favorite think about touring over here opposed to home?
Daniel: Paramore. The friends. The hangouts, that’s it. It’s fun to play the shows, but I don’t think I would ever do this if I had to tour with a band that I don’t get along with. You have to feel comfortable with the people that you are with and that’s definitely the case now.

Thanks so much for your time is there anything else that you’d like to add?
Daniel: No, thank you.
