Omens
All of our albums open with a bang.  I’ve always loved listening to albums with an intro track, something that sets the mood.  Nat programmed this amazing futuristic beat and we thought it was perfect.

Eyes Closed
Admittedly, this album is the first album where I felt comfortable in my skin as a writer and a singer.  Before, I would question whether I should rap or sing or stick to one or the other.  What was my style?  I wasn’t sure.  I think that previous indecision made for some happy surprises in a lot of songs, but it felt nice to be in control and confident for once.  When we were working on “Eyes Closed,” I wanted to make something that was a little cocky and reminiscent of some of the early Hip-Hop stuff I’ve always loved.  So, that’s where the lyrics stemmed from.

You’re Gonna Love This
While Nat was producing this track, I was freestyling on the mic.  When the drop came before the chorus, I would just make up something goofy.  The first time it happened, I said in a low voice, “You’re gonna love this,” and it stuck.  From that point on, we just wanted to make a fun, feel-good song, something that fit the sentiment of the tag and the production.

Black Hole
This song is just grimy.  I wanted to get dirty and open myself up on the verses.  Nat’s glitchy production made me imagine these massive robots trying to walk, but just stumbling over themselves.  It had a sci-fi feel, hence the “Black Hole” reference.  I had a blast writing the verses, freestyling over the beat.  It was so awesome.

Make It Easy
I love the sentiment of this song.  Often, when I am down or depressed, it’s just a product of my mode of thinking.  Sometimes, all it takes is a good breath and a realization that life is good.  This song is like dark clouds parting to reveal a sunny day.

June is just a few days away, and there are a slew of great records coming out in the coming month that PropertyOfZack team members couldn’t be more stoked to hear. In today’s new Discussion, we’re highlighting our personal Most Anticipated June Releases. Check out our list below and feel free to reblog with what you’re looking forward to as well!

The Maine - Forever Halloween (6/4)
The Maine’s uphill battle against the record industry has been well documented, but it turns out that fight wasn’t quite as quixotic as it first appeared. Now fully free and clear of all label ties, The Maine seem to have taken full advantage of their newfound opportunity to make an album any way they damn well want — Forever Halloween was cut live to tape, old-school style, with indie pop-smith/Jack White second-banana Brendan Benson manning the boards. Over the years, the Maine have steadily progressed away from the high-gloss sheen of their earliest hits, but Forever Halloween promises to capture the rawness and loose, organic feel of the band’s freewheeling live sets in a way they haven’t quite achieved in the past. Of course, none of that matters if the songs aren’t great, but that’s one area where the Maine have never let us down. - Jesse Richman

Citizen – Youth (6/11)
When I interviewed Will Yip a few months back, he just got out of a studio session with Citizen. It was the first thing we talked about, and the Philly producer sounded giddy. I was already excited, and that was before Will Yip drew one of the biggest comparisons anyone can make: likening the new album to something Brand New-esque.

I was hooked.

The first few songs we’ve heard from the album have been certified scorchers, and this band has come a long, long way since I discovered their demos on an Easycore blog (I was in high school, give me a break) way back when. This album should be something like Magnolia was for Turnover — a benchmark that should set the bar high for a talented young group. - Erik van Rheenen

Mixtapes - Ordinary Silence (6/25)
Not even a year since their debut full length Even On The Worst Nights, Mixtapes is already gearing up for the release of follow-up Ordinary Silence. Mixtapes has always been known for crafting quirky and upbeat pop punk, but Even On The Worst Nights showed a new level of maturity for the otherwise carefree and fun-loving band. Judging by the few new songs they’ve already shared from Ordinary Silence, the new album is going to show even more growth, while sticking with the signature male/female dual lead vocals and passionately uncomplicated way of addressing everyday problems. With a brief tour featuring You Blew It!, Light Years, and Modern Baseball coming up, followed by a stint on Vans Warped Tour, Mixtapes is in position to do big things this summer. - Becky Kovach

Jimmy Eat World - Damage (6/11)
A new Jimmy Eat World album is always cause for celebration. Still, settled into a mid-career groove, the band’s last few efforts have been more “good” than “great”. It seems the band themselves recognized that they were in a bit of a rut — this time out, they’ve changed up their methodology, breaking out of their home studio to spend a month in LA with producer Alain Johannes. The resulting album, which frontman Jim Adkins is famously describing as an “adult breakup” record, promises to trade the character portraits of 2010’s Invented for more personally reflective material that calls back to fan-favorite Clarity. We should be so lucky. - Jesse Richman
