From JT Woodruff:

I’m not gonna lie…We are in Columbus Ohio, which is 90 miles away from where we live. There are 5 days left of tour, but something about Ohio just makes us want to stay. So the question is, should we stay on tour…or take the easy route and just roll home after the Columbus show? KEEP ON TRUCKING. That’s all we really know how to do it in Hawthorne Heights. We have been through an entire lifetime of ups and downs, and nothing’s gonna stop us now. So after playing a really weird feeling Columbus show, we drive into the night on the Penn Turnpike. I say the show was weird, because it was at the same venue that Dimebag Darrell lost his life. It was extremely strange to be in the same place and see where everything went down. I wasn’t into it.

Into the night we drive and we can tell by the fog on the glass that the temperature was falling fast. Once again…I fucking hate the cold. I don’t like anything about it. I hate wearing a coat. Anything more than a hoodie pisses me off. But still…these are small problems to have. We are tour playing our songs and that’s fine by me. We arrive at an average hotel, booked on priceline, to sleep for a few hours. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ We are up way too early to finish our drive to Philadelphia, which is at least one of my favorite cities. Philly means we get to see Mike Ski, hang with Claudia, and eat cheesesteaks. Nothing wrong with that plan at all. Drank a lot of coffee on South Street. We were showered by gifts from the lovely Claudia (THANKS!). I bought Mike some falafel…life was fun. The show was weird because it was 21+, but Legendary Dobbs was cool. I love South Street.

From JT Woodruff:

“Now that drunk tank in Atlanta, is just a motel room to me.  Think I might go work Orlando, if them orange groves don’t freeze.  I got my own way of workin’, but everything is run…with a Southern Accent where I come from.”—-Tom Petty.

All of us in Hawthorne Heights had a hell of time in the south.  We always do.  Of course, we always have a hell of time everywhere we go.  We are simple dudes, living in complicated times, trying to navigate an impossible industry.  The way we get by, is to try to help each other out every step of the way.  Sometimes we fight, like all bands.  But most of the time we just drink coffee and beat the shit out of each other in Halo 3.

Since this is a road blog, I thought I would include some music that has gotten me through some of my driving shifts.  Feel free to check out these artists and albums, mainly because I think they are good haha.  But, don’t trust me…take a listen for yourself.  And as always, love it or leave it.

Best EARLY MORNING DRIVE albums-
NOFX-So Long and Thanks for All the Shoes
Hall and Oates-Rock and Soul
Goldfinger-Goldfinger

Hawthorne Heights are out on their first tour of 2012 with Me Talk Pretty and The Young Electric. JT Woodruff from the band will be sending in Road Blogs to PropertyOfZack throughout the tour, so make sure to keep checking back for more!

From JT Woodruff:

Confessions of a DIY Band…Part 1
I’m gonna write this blog in random spurts.  I don’t want it to seem like I am just reciting information.  I hope the reader will understand our point of view while touring.  So instead of going day by day, I will be picking random good times.  I will try my best to be thorough…but even for a straight edge guy, the road can be a blur.  Flashes of bright lights and road signs.  Staring at a GPS and a TV screen emblazoned with the Halo 3 logo.  Numerous trips to our favorite coffee spot with a green mermaid logo…and boy does she shine when all lit up.  Boy does she shine…

First let’s start off with the pre-tour stops.  Because we aren’t officially on tour, until we are together.

Step one:
Eron, Micah, and Mark meet at Matt’s house in lovely Dayton, Ohio.  They load the merch that we are carrying for our tour, as well what we need for our mobile webstore.  This will include everything for sale at the table each show, and the extra items we carry at www.hawthorneheightsstore.com.  We will need our mobile printer, packing and shipping supplies, as well as a bunch of parchment paper for our hand written lyric pack.  If we forget anything, it’s off to the office supply store.  NOT COOL.

Step two:
Pick up JT, (ME), in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Get more merch from my basement and my luggage to throw into the Sprinter.  Kiss the family goodbye, wipe away my tears so people still think I am tough…and then claim my spot in the backseat.  I actually brought 2 DVD’s with me, which I never do.  They are The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 (original) and Truth or Dare.  Truth or Dare is a horrible movie I used to rent from a video store 15 years ago.  It’s terrible…
