It’s safe to say that no one is prepared for the musical monstrosity that is The Royal Thousand. Composed of frontman Jerry Roush (ex - Sky Eats Airplane, Of Mice & Men), lead guitarist Joshua Travis (The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza), bassist Travis Sykes and drummer Chad Hasty, Glass Cloud is not your average metalcore band. Between Roush’s raspy vocal range (improving tenfold since his stints in former bands), Travis’ intense 8-string guitar capabilities, and a very surprising performance by drummer Chad Hasty, The Royal Thousand is a force to be reckoned with.

The Royal Thousand has much hype built up around it; due to Roush’s drama filled past and his recent partnering with technical guitarist Joshua Travis. Does the bands debut full-length live up to all the anticipation? Without an ounce of hesitation, the answer is yes. From Travis’ intense shredding performance (“She Is Well And Nothing Can Be Ill”) to Chad Hasty’s unexpected, excellent drumming (“Falling In Style”), Glass Cloud is a breath of fresh air to this slowly dying scene. As for Roush, it’s intriguing to see how much his vocal performance has improved since his days in Sky Eats Airplane; while at times still reminiscent, his voice doesn’t sound as forceful or constrained, it feels much more natural (“Ivy and Wine”).

Filler tracks you ask? Unless your definition of a filler track is an interlude, (“Prelude For A Ghost”), The Royal Thousand is void of any unnecessary instrumentation structures. The band shows extreme versatility in not obligating to stick to one specific song foundation. By the end of each track, you find yourself eagerly anticipating what curveball the band is going to throw at you next.

Lyrically speaking, The Royal Thousand is somewhat hard to decipher. For instance, in the album’s first single, “White Flag,” (which was released as a double single alongside “Counting Sheep”) Roush epically bellows, “I am a starving man who does impossible things // And you can’t see fire if you’re standing in flames //Just raise the white flag.” At times, the lyrical content almost resembles a dialogue to an intoxicating concept album.

The 2012 Scream It Like You Mean it Tour is just about over, but we have a PropertyOfZack Playlist from Like Moths To Flames, Close To Home, and Glass Cloud on tour before it officially comes to an end.  Check out the Playlists and listen to the songs on Spotify while reading everyone’s thoughts!

Make Do And Mend - Disassemble

I was really looking forward to their new record and definitely wasn’t let down. Disassemble is my favorite song from the release, love the lyrics and vibe.
The Early November - Tell My Why
Love this song! When I heard it for the first time, it stayed stuck in my head for days. Ace killed it!
Architects - Alpha Omega
One of my favorite bands, really like everything about the song. Vocals, lyrics, guitars, etc.
Stick To Your Guns - Such Pain *Song is not on Spotify
I really like the lyrics to the song. They feel super real..You can tell he meant what he said and that he actually felt it.
New Found Glory - Understatement
This song will be one of my faves forever. Years after the album came out, I can still jam it and love it equally as much as I did the first time I heard it. - Chris Roett

Mumford & Son’s - Little Lion Man
I’ve always been a fan of that acoustic/folk style of music and I feel like I can relate to what they are saying. I feel like this song is about realizing you have fucked up at some point in your life and taking responsibility for it. I respect that.
Jack Johnson - All At Once
It’s a jam that will make one stop and take a moment to relax and enjoy what life has brought to them.
Brand New - Jude Law And A Semester Abroad
This is one of my favorite CDs ever. Every time I listen to this I feel like I’m in high school again. Jesse Lacey is definitely my biggest inspiration.
Thrice - Treading Paper
One of my all time favorite bands lead by Dustin Kensrues always intelligent lyrics. I’ve loved watching this band evolve through the years and this song in particular really speaks my heart with how I view the world and my personal beliefs.
Architects - These Colours Don’t Run
This is a song that we all really enjoy when we are drinking. While lyrically it is strong and has a big message something about that breakdown instantly makes us 100 times more drunk.

Radiohead - Everything In Its Right Place

The first song off of my favorite Radiohead record, Kid A. It’s so brilliant and it has this pulse that just builds through the whole song. It’s got this 10/8 time signature but it still feels so natural and perfect.
Erykah Badu - Umm Hmm
I love Erykah’s sampling technique. Her and the producer always pick out the coolest old songs to revamp and bring to life. I think that’s a beautiful quality in a brilliant hip-hop/R&B artist.
D’Angelo - Chicken Grease
An artist like D’Angelo has so many good songs that it would be unjust to pick just one, but I had to put one on here. This is the perfect song for any musician to study if you are trying to get your feel just right. It’s like this song doesn’t even have a tempo. It’s all over the meter but it locks like nothing you’ve ever heard.
Fiona Apple - Valentine
Fiona has this way with words that her contemporaries have a very hard time replicating. This song off of her new record displays her unorthodox but perfectly put together arrangements and her beautifully metaphoric lyrics. I love it and I have this album on constant rotation.
The Beatles - Within You Without You *Song is not on Spotify
Probably my favorite Beatles song that was written by George. It just has this ethereal vibe that I love and the lyrics are so heavy. The version of this that was redone for the Beatles Cirque Du Soleil is set to the drum track from “Tomorrow Never Knows” and just FLOWS.
