POZ BandsOnBands: Paradise Fears On Andrew McMahon
From Sam Miller:
Andrew McMahon was a unique thing to happen to music. Getting signed out of high school with Something Corporate, an immediately popular “pop band in an era of punk that nobody understood,” transitioning that to a solo, alt-piano-rock project that sold hundreds of thousands of records by sounding like nobody else sounded, & then finally shedding both monikers to take his own name as an artist & writing songs of reflection. What amazes me most is that he’s been able to keep & grow an audience through all of the projects, because his art feels like it’s coming from a real place. Like he had to write the songs because he was trying to understand himself, & because we’re creatures of shared experience, we can come to understand ourselves through his search.
