Here we are in Pawtucket, RI. Thunder is booming, rain is pouring and we have 4 hours til doors open. Tonight we are playing The Met. Last time I was here was for the TREOS reunion show, it was so much fun! Great spot. We only have a few more shows left and it’s starting to settle in that…well it sucks. I miss it already. The crowds have been great and I’m pretty sure we made some new awesome fans.

The life of a gypsy is not for everyone and sometimes I question how long I can go, but for now it’s doing me some good. There’s not a lot of room for self loathing or doubt, you are left with no choice but to suck it up and play the damn show. You don’t get much time alone and if you do it is quickly put to an end one way or another. We have been lucky enough to spend nights with friends and take up their floors. We’ve played with some amazing bands as well…just basically I am overloaded with so many emotions. So many!!! Ahhhh….also I’ve had a lot of espresso today. Sorry guys, my brain is all over the place. I suppose I will check back with you guys in a bit..im going to find a little corner and write a song. til then…xo

Home stretch, exactly 1 more week of shows to go before we wrap up our second tor as TCWK.  We got to spend some quality time with Fred and Terrible Things, see a lot of awesome friends at the Warped Tour, and most recently, got to watch my old friends (and former employer!), Armor For Sleep, rock out in NYC.  I think it may bother Ben, but I will always call AFS a grunge band and love it!  I always forget how great some of those old riffs were/are.

I think one of the most satisfying things about being a nomad for a living, is being able to see people you really love and care about on a regular basis, regardless of how far apart you may actually live.  I got to spend some time with Fred Mascherino when we were both on tour with Craig Owens, and I have to say, Fred is possibly the most kind human being alive in this world.  Amazing guy, and amazing shredder on guitar.  Also, it was way past due for some decent, yet short lived, hang outs with Ben Jorgensen of AFS.  I did a tour working for them years ago and we became pretty close.  I still force him to listen to demos all the time, and I’ve definitely missed him.  Aside from our short hang at Bamboozle this year, its definitely been years since we were last in the same spot.

Well, today was our first date on the Vans Warped Tour in our hometown of Detroit and it was so much fun! We did an acoustic set at the Acoustic Basement tent and the turn out was more than expected so that’s nice :) 

I have to say though, this heat is brutal! But of course totally worth it. We finished the first leg of the tour with our friends in Bars of Gold and Maps for Travelers. Both bands are not only amazing musicians but amazing people, I really couldn’t have imagined a better group of people up. We all celebrated the 4th of July in our hometowns and got some time to catch up on sleep. Lots of amazing food and fireworks at the Southall residence! Anyways…we are currently en route for Chicago to do our second date of Warped, I hope that by chance someone is reading this and that you live in Chicago and that you come see us do this acoustic jam. It’s really funny. …..I mean fun! ;) okay its both. that’s all I got. I’ll write back in a few days, hope you’re all keeping cool in this heat wave, peace and such!

Here we are, 4 shows down, and 2 more to go before a quick break in celebration of America followed by a short stint with the Vans Warped Tour.  Minneapolis, Madison, Omaha, and Kansas City were all a blast.  

It’s been a really fun time with our new friends Maps For Travelers, and our old and very dear friends Bars Of Gold.  I can say with a certainty that more people will read this than will have seen these shows so far, and I have to say, you’re missing out.  MFT/BOG are both amazing bands, and would impress anyone in the room any night.

We’re starting to get it together and play well, which is great and yet pointless since we will soon have a few days off and then only be performing acoustic for 3 days with Warped.  That’s right, ACOUSTIC!  Very curious to see how this acoustic tent plan is working out.  My great friend Brian Marquis, formerly of Therefore I Am, is out there heading it up, and it seems to be going very well for everyone involved.  Also, since i think we’re a pretty damn good acoustic band, this should be fun.  Not entirely excited about being a disgusting sweaty zombie for 3 days, but I’m optimistic it will be worth it to see a lot of friends and hopefully play in front of some new people.

It’s Amy here :) If you didn’t know, we’re about to go on our second tour EVER. Couldn’t be more excited! Right now, life is taking many turns and crazy loops and it’s all a big blur, but this tour is such a getaway for me to go do what I love every night with people I love. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we do. This is actually only my second tour personally as well. I haven’t been to most of the cities we are hitting, so the level of excitement and curiosity is sky high. Nothing makes me happier than playing music and to be able to wake up in a new city everyday to do just that is something I feel very lucky and blessed to do. I hope this road blog brings us all a little bit closer and leaves for some rad memories to be kept forever.

Hi, 

My name is Brian Southall, I am 30 years old, and instead of buying a house and settling down, I just bought a van and decided to start a band.  Yes, I am insane.  I realize that concert attendance is drastically down, I know that people rarely buy records anymore, and since I’ve spent the past 4-5 years Tour Managing bands, I realize how very hard it is to make any sort of living doing this…. but… I DONT CARE.

We humans are becoming a terrible joke of a race, and I refuse to become a part of this complacent generation just content getting by.  I want to make music for a living, and there is absolutely nothing else that makes me feel the same way, so I plan to make it happen, somehow, some way.  I’ve never been the guy with the cool clothes, cool hair, terrible tattoos, etc… I’m just a guy who likes writing songs and performing them with my friends, and I decided, as bad of an idea as I know it is, I’m going to give it one last shot.  One last attempt at being in a touring band, and doing what I love, with people that I love while traveling uncomfortably across this country.
